Early Years Foundation Stage

A very warm welcome to the Early Years Unit at Brayton Primary School

Beginning school is an exciting event and we are delighted that your child will be joining us soon.  There will be lots of new things to learn and of course you will want to ensure that your child is well prepared for this important event. We will make it a happy and memorable experience.

Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up. (Ofsted Framework 2014).

At Brayton C of E Primary School we aim to provide a high quality Early Years education and childcare, for children from 3 years old to 5 years old giving children the best possible start in life they deserve. The EYFS team have an exceptional wealth of knowledge and experience of how children learn. We passionately believe in and deliver a creative curriculum which builds children’s social and emotional resilience, draws upon the latest research in child development and recognises the importance of strong relationships with parents and families.

Our early year’s area is interlinked helping children to make a seamless transition from one room to another, preparing them for the move to the main school.

Learning in the Foundation Stage
 is where the excitement begins!

Within the Early Years Curriculum there are 3 prime areas of learning and 4 specific areas. This framework provides the basis of how we structure the setting, the activities and opportunities we provide; as well as how we assess your child’s development. For each of these areas your child will have an ‘Early Learning Goal’ to work towards.

Look at my physical development! I'm handling equipment and tools effectively, including pencils for writing.

Look at my physical development! I'm moving safely and confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space.

Look at my physical development! I'm showing good control and

co-ordination in large and small movements.
